Ok…so I did figure out how to make a video into something I could upload here but alas I didn’t find my video from my very first horse show…We are in major upheaval because of all the moving so I”m sure it will surface…and if it does I’ll put it up someday…
My nudge for Hot off the Press today was about memories…Well… reading Tara’s response made me well up with tears so when I headed over here to blog about mine…I was and am determined to find something to entertain you with that might bring you a smile!! (P.S. Tara don’t take that wrong your post was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!!) It just shocked me that it got to me as much as it did! I mean hello…I don’t know you THAT well YET!
While I totally agree that “once someone passes every memory is special” (so eloquently stated by Tara), on the other hand I feel just as passionate about the memories of the living! A little background…I am a talker (not that you don’t already know that I mean come on…if you read this blog you’d have to be pretty dense to not already know that one!) Ok…well growing up was no different than now and I was labeled Mouth of the South…one of those fond nicknames you just wish weren’t true or that no one would ever really HEAR (I have a few of those…like turd bird…what kind of a name is that!!! Yep…my nickname from my grandpa growing up!!) I digress…sorry…When I was little I used to crawl into my grandma’s bed at night or in the morning with a sweet little plea of “Mawmaw can we talk a bit?” Of course I’m the baby girl so did she ever turn me down? Nope…never…not even after learning these sessions really had very little to do with “can WE talk a bit” as much as they resonated loud and clear “can I talk a bit”!! Well years passd and yep I continued to talk…and still do…She is just the best, she just sits and listens (of course I’m learning that, that is just something mothers do, and she is a mother after all
) Well all those little talks have become a jumbling mass of wonderful memories spent with a wonderful woman…well..Now I’m a mom…and yes I listen…but much to my delight not too long ago I get a call from Grandma to tell me a little tid bit… You see Monkey (yes that is another one of those nick names you wish just weren’t used!) was visiting her. An evening comes…Grandma is snuggled in bed watching T.V. when in trots miss thing chiming those all to familiar words…”Mawmaw, can we talk a bit”! Can you believe it!! I mean I know she is my little girl…but wow!! And AS usual…Mawmaw not only listens but reports…it was actually more of a “can I talk” proposition!! Way to go Savannah Banana! You’re carrying on a tradition that I have grown to hold dear to my heart, I wonder what you will think of them when you are older and ummm..wiser…ok..so that was a little dream on my end…I like to think of myself as a little wiser and who knows…I may be so thanks in part to all those little chats!! Here is to ya Grandma and just think 15 days to go and you will be within arms reach on a regular basis for us (family) to benefit from many many more of those “Mawmaw can we talk a bit” sessions :):) Hmmm…that makes ya wonder…what does Grandma get out of these chats? Anything? That is one to remember to ask!!!
